Black History Month Scholarship Contest

The Mu Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is offering (5) $500 one-time scholarships to deserving high school seniors who excel academically and contribute to their school and community. This opportunity is part of the 2024 Black History Month Scholarship Essay Contest, aimed at helping students achieve their educational and professional goals. The contest is open to 12th-grade students in the greater Birmingham and Jefferson County area.

Scholarship Contest Details


High School Senior with a minimum unweighted overall 2.5 GPA
Two (2) Letters of Recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or principal.
Official High School Transcript
Resume highlighting community service and leadership experience.
A Completed Application
400-500 word essay answering the prompt provided.
Topic: Reflect on the profound impact of an influential figure or event in Black history and explain how their contributions have shaped the path toward racial equality. Discuss the relevance of this historical figure or event in today's society and how it has influenced your personal aspirations and commitment to social justice.
